In front of a record 20,000+ crowd at Nottingham Forest the Arsenal Ladies beat Charlton Ladies earlier today by 4-1 in the Ladies FA Cup Final.
Arsenal gave Charlton a chance by letting them score their goal in the second minute but the Charlton lead was short lived as Kelly Smith equalised from a free kick minutes later. Jayne Ludlow put the female Gunners in the lead a few minutes later before hitting an absolute rocket seconds before half time to make the score at the interval 3-1. Charlton tried to make a game of it in the second half but Kelly Smith added a fourth just before the end.
So in their 20th year and his 20th year Vic Akers' magic Ladies have won everything that they entered in this season and haven't lost a game (so far) - six trophies in all - The London County Cup, The League Cup, The Premiership, The Uefa Cup, now the FA Cup and not forgetting the Community Shield right at the very beginning of what turned out to be a fantastic season.
Team of the Year - yep we think so. Manager of the Year for Vic Akers - yep we think so. (Please take note BBC when Sports Personality comes round.) Maybe the number one royal fan will bestow Vic with an honour as well?
There are two more Premiership games to go - Everton (behind closed doors at the Emirates this Wednesday afternoon) and then Leeds at Borehamwood on Sunday May 20th.
