Gillingham won their 4th round FA Cup tie against
Bristol Rovers tonight. Gillingham were much the better side
throughout (having 21 shots, and 15 corners to Rovers' one), but still only scraped through 1-0 thanks to an own goal. Sounds familiar.
Gillingham face Arsenal at Highbury on Saturday 16th February.
See Sports.com and official Gills site for match reports, and Arseweb's Arsenal vs Gillingham page for head-to-head stats etc.
Although our total record against them is poor, most of the games were some time ago. In the last century the only meeting between the clubs was a 5-0 FA Cup win (at the third attempt) at Highbury in 1966.
Gills players of note: well there's ex Arsenal keeper Vince Bartram and striker Paul Shaw. To be honest the other names don't mean much to me. Any Gooners out there got the low-down?
Is it going to be a match of missed chances at both ends
in both halves?
Rupe adds...
Apparently Ty Gooden
was with us as a trainee too, back in the Campbell/Hillier era. Thanks to Sam Smith for the memory!
