Arsenal are resting a trio of big names from the starting line-up at St James's Park tonight.
Freddie Ljungberg is back, but David Seaman, Robert Pires, and Dennis Bergkamp are only on the bench.
Arsenal have a massive Champions League match on Tuesday, needing only to beat Deportivo to get into the quarter-finals with a game to spare (see Leberhosen report), and it seems inconceivable that these three won't play given their recent form?
So, are Arsenal doing a disservice to the FA Cup? Arsene Wenger has pointed out that the team that played against Newcastle (and won) in the league last week could be thought of as a weak team, he even
suggested that if he'd fielded that team in the FA Cup he'd have been criticised.
But last weekend he did field as strong a team as he could, and he didn't actually drop any such in-form players as H, Bob, and Dennis.
It's a tough call for an Arsenal fan. While we have to accept that Tuesday is the bigger game, I think most of us will
have been disappointed with today's omissions. But at the end of the day, the decision will have to be judged at the end of Tuesday: on the results. If Arsenal fail to win in both games, it'll have to go down as a mistake.
